No city in Australia has a more blood-thirsty origin than Brisbane. From its bad beginning as the most infamous convict penal colony in Australia, Moreton Bay ran literally with blood, staining the very soil upon which the town developed. It was home to the rejected scum of Sydney before Melbourne had even been conceived of. Even notorious Port Arthur in Tasmania was not established until nearly a decade after Moreton Bay. As Brisbane Town grew, so did crime. The “River City” has been the scene of some of Australia’s most infamous crimes… including the Whiskey Au Go Go, Betty Shanks’ Murder, and the Vampire Killer…
